State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak handed over a laptop to each of the 265 women entrepreneurs of Narayanganj as a gift from the Prime Minister on International Women’s Day on Friday, March 8. These laptops have been given to women IT service providers, women freelancers and women call center agents of Narayanganj Sadar, Araihazar, and Rupganj upazilas.

Through this, 25 thousand 125 women entrepreneurs became the owners of a laptop under the project ‘Empowerment of Women with the Help of technology’ under the ICT Division to ensure sustainable empowerment of women as self-employment system and entrepreneurs by using the best safe use of information technology and to reduce gender based digital inequality.

Pointing out the purpose of laptop distribution, Palak said, in the present time if we can make our sisters skilled and if they get a start-up fund and a laptop each from the prime minister, they can start up with that. Then they will be self-reliant. They don’t have to depend on anyone.  

Meanwhile, the State Minister urged the women trainees to take the laptop gifted by the Prime Minister and make 10 more entrepreneurs by performing their duties well for the welfare of the country.  

In the afternoon, the State Minister visited the work of the Sheikh Kamal IT Institute under construction in Narayanganj before attending the “Laptop distribution among female trainees” program at the District Art Academy located in Kalirbazar, Narayanganj. 

At the laptop distribution ceremony, while speaking as the chief guest,  Zunaid Ahmed Palak gave the people an update on the visit. He said, “I have visited the work of Sheikh Kamal IT Institute while coming today. It will be visible within the next six months. The building will be here in six years. Thousands of boys and girls will be employed here. Sitting from the ground of Narayanganj, they will outsource to big countries. They will lead to build a prosperous Bangladesh”.

State Minister Palak also said that when I came today, I visited the work of setting up Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Center in Narayanganj. It will be visible within the next six months and a 10-storey building within the next 3 years. At least 5 thousand boys and girls will be employed every year from there. Sitting from the ground of Narayanganj, they will outsource to big countries. They also will lead to build a prosperous Bangladesh

Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj District Md. Mahmudul Haque presided over the event. Narayanganj-4 Constituency Member of Parliament AKM Shamim Osman MP, Narayanganj-5 Constituency Member of Parliament AKM Salim Osman MP, Narayanganj Zilla Parishad Chairman Chandan Sheel, Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police Golam Mostafa Russell spoke. ICT Directorate Director General Mustafa Kamal and many others spoke on the event.

It may be informed that by giving priority to freelancing nationwide through the project, a total of 3 upazilas including Sadar upazila of 43 districts and a total of 130 upazilas including Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district in four categories (women freelancers, women IT service providers, women e-commerce professionals and women call center agents) total 25,125 women will be provided 5 (five) months training and 1 month mentorship support. Besides, all successful trainees will be given a laptop each. At present, the training program of 8460 people in 408 batches in the first phase is ongoing in 130 upazilas and the program of giving laptops to the trainees will continue in stages.
