TikTok, in partnership with JAAGO Foundation, today announced the extension of their collaborative initiative, Shabdhane Online-A, aimed at educating the youth of Bangladesh on online safety and responsible social media use. This announcement was made at the Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) 2024 held at the Rural Development Academy in Bogura.

One of the highlight sessions of the Youth Empowerment Summit was the exclusive session named “YES to Shabdhane Online-A” jointly arranged by TikTok and JAAGO Foundation. Organized to observe the “Safer Internet Day” celebrated in February, the session aimed to educate youth about internet safety and responsible use of social media through participatory activities and discussions.

Attended by 500 youth leaders from diverse regions, and members of the Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD) program, the session, led by an expert, explored a broad spectrum of digital safety aspects, including safe internet practices and the use of TikTok Safety tools. A distinguished social media influencer joined, contributing real-life experiences in a dynamic exchange. This distinctive format enabled participants to not just gain internet safety knowledge but also comprehend practical examples and the mindset of a successful content creator.

In addition, a content creation competition was launched for the participants of the summit. 3 Winners were announced and awarded during the session.

Over the past two years, TikTok and JAAGO Foundation have collaboratively championed the “Shabdhane Online-A” campaign, aiming to educate Bangladesh’s youth on online safety. Recognizing the evolving digital landscape’s challenges, especially among the youth, it becomes imperative to cultivate awareness about responsible online behavior. This is vital to harness the positive potential of content creation amidst the growing reliance on social media platforms. For this purpose, the campaign has already carried out offline activities in around 34 districts of the country as well as a large number of online activities.

Representatives from TikTok and JAAGO Foundation took the stage at the “YES to Shabdhane Online-A” session at Youth Empowerments Summit 2024 to announce the extension of their partnership, articulating their shared objectives and initiatives promoting internet safety and responsible social media use.

Korvi Rakshand, the Founder of JAAGO Foundation, shared his heartfelt sentiments about the project, stating “It has been a delightful experience collaborating on this project. I strongly believe addressing the knowledge gap in online safety among youth is crucial, and through the Shabdhane Online-A campaign, TikTok and JAAGO Foundation are making significant efforts to assist them.”

Mr. Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy & Government Relations- South Asia, TikTok, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership extension, saying “TikTok is anticipating the imminent expansion with great enthusiasm; I envision the campaign’s reach extending nationwide, benefiting a substantial number of youths.” He added “To ensure a triumphant impact, the Shabdhane Online campaign will seamlessly integrate with a campus activation initiative, aspiring to touch as many campuses as possible.”

Overall, the “YES to Shabdhane Online-A” session at the Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) 2024 was a great success in raising awareness and promoting internet safety and responsible use of social media among the youth participants.
