In taking loans from banks, women entrepreneurs can take loans by showing not only men but also women as guarantors. Bangladesh Bank has assured to take steps to ensure access to loans on easy terms for small and medium women entrepreneurs in the country.

A delegation of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry-FBCCI paid a courtesy call to Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rauf Talukder on Monday (September 18). At that time, following the proposal of FBCCI President Mahbubul Alam, the Governor of the Central Bank gave this assurance.

In the courtesy call, the FBCCI president said that small and medium entrepreneurs continue to play an important role in boosting the country’s economy. In this regard, along with men, women entrepreneurs are also playing a strong role. However, getting loans for women entrepreneurs to operate and expand their businesses is still not that easy. Banks are also less enthusiastic about providing loans to women entrepreneurs in various areas. Besides, to get a loan, a woman entrepreneur has to show her father, brother, or husband as a guarantor. Mentioning that banks do not want to accept a woman as a guarantor, he requested the Central Bank’s intervention in this matter. At the same time, Mahbubul Alam urged to raise the bank loan to a maximum of Tk 50 lakh for small and medium women entrepreneurs.

Referring to the Bangladesh Bank governor as a business-friendly governor, the FBCCI president said that Bangladesh Bank is regularly providing financial and policy support to deal with the long-term impact of the coronavirus epidemic on the country’s economy and the global economic situation caused by the Ukraine-Russia war. Due to this policy support of Bangladesh Bank, it has been possible to deal successfully with the stress of Corona epidemic, and with it, the stress of the Ukraine-Russia war is being satisfactorily dealt with. For this, he expressed sincere thanks and gratitude on behalf of FBCCI to all concerned including the governor.

Taking into account the long-term negative impact of the coronavirus epidemic, the Ukraine-Russia crisis, and global economic instability, the FBCCI President requested to provide loan rescheduling facility for all sectors and not increase the interest rate to maintain the competitiveness of Bangladeshi products in the foreign market.
